Hi All, I've been detecting for about six years with a Coinmaster GT.

I literally just got an AT Pro with hopes of doing better at the beach (I know it's not meant for this) but I got it for a best all around detector that will not break my bank. I will be spending TWO weeks in Maine this summer, so I'm hoping to do well up there.

I've read a few websites and watched all the tutorials from Garrett about the AT pro. Any other advice?
I noticed a guy on eBay sells a reference card for $5 to help with settings, any thoughts on that?
Anyone ever hunted near York Maine or Isle Le Mott in Vermont?

I live on the West coast of Florida in the Venice area and detect mostly the beach, parks & church parking lots that actually allow me to.

BTW, should I keep the Coinmaster or sell it?

I am looking forward enjoying this Forum!

Welcome from down here....
Never sell a machine till you are ready for sure to part with it.
The Pro will serve you well.
Practice like hell on your new toy, then don't forget to ground balance the dirt up theya

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Florida for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome to Tnet
You can copy these numbers on an index card and then tape it to the side of the AT PRO.
51 - 52 NICKEL
80 - 81 PENNY
83 - 85 DIME
86 - 87 QUARTER
Set your machine in the PRO ZERO MODE. Program the ground balance 84. Set your Sensitivity 2 notches down. There are lots of other target I.D. numbers but these will get you started.

Hello Strongarm18,

The AT Pro will do you well. Some thoughts: Auto Ground Balance the manual drop the number by 5, Sensitivity one Bar down, Pro Zero mode Iron Disc = 18 (used with iron audio feature), Dig everything from 49 - 85+ until you understand the machine. Foils lives around 30+, pull tabs 50 - 60's, but some older ones ring up lower. Indian Head cents around 63, Silver between 79 - 85+, but Spanish silver can hit lower so be careful and GOLD jewelry from 39 - 69 and there is the irony!

There is more to learn about, but this will get you started.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Just watched the DVD that came with it. Nothing like my coinmaster GT, but I can certainly see some of the advantages. The pro audio mode with the triple tone to help identify bottle caps...wow that will be useful.

I noticed at AT is your go-to toy. How long have you been using it?

Welcome to TNet from Virginia! I Have a Coinmaster and did not get rid of it when I got my MX Sport. It is my back up /extra in case someone else wants to come along and does not have one. Nice to have an extra and if something happens to the main unit, nice to have a fall back. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

Two years now.... didn't take long at all for me to realize that Pro mode all metal is the way to go. Discrimination up to 35, sensitivity varies by soil type....but if you dig it all, you will find it all.

Finally was able to concur wet beach sand yesterday after watching the DVD. What an amazing machine! I couldn't believe the signals it was pulling out that my coinmaster GT would never hit on or was just always sending false signals. Because I was learning, I dug up everything...even a rusted out very, very small paperclip about 4 inches down!

I did notice however that even though it was picking up solid hits, the Pinpoint mode wouldn't work on them in the wet sand ("them" as the faint but steady signals").
