Hey everyone, been wanting to get into metal detecting for a long while now so I figured this would be a good place to ask a few questions. But first a little about myself, I'm 24 years old, recently got our of the Army and I have always had an interest in history and archaeology. I currently reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I'm not sure of any good spots to start hunting. I also would like some advice on what kind of metal detector to get. I did some online research and I just keep getting the same answer "pick the right one for YOU", well that could mean like 100000 different things. However, I would like one that is water resistant, can see things a bit deeper into the ground and weight isn't an issue for me. I'm a pretty strong guy. 
I am particularly interested in finding military items. Although, anything would be awesome. So please, any advice on buying a detector or anything at all, I'm as green as the grass you guys sift through.
