I was thinking yesterday I would like to find some silver half and someone suggested get rolls from the bank. First bank I went to didn't have rolls but teller said she had some loose ones. I got all the bank had, $48 worth and turns out I found 51 Kennedy 65-69 after that I was hooked and hit 3 more banks no luck. Today I stopped at 7-8 banks but only a few had half but I did get $73 worth. No silver today and I was starting to get disappointed but some body pointed out this site. I am thinking about getting a few rolls tomorrow of penny, dimes, and half if I can. Then when I get home have the kids go thru thpm at the table together.

My questions are

Do I just buy rolls of coins at the bank or should I ask for bags?
If you don't get them at the bank where should I get them?
After you go thru the coins do you just take the rolls back in to the same bank for bills or more rolls?
Is there a list somewhere of what coins to save and why? I know to save halfs 1964-70, dimes pre1965, nickels pre 1960, and pennys pre 1982.

Thanks everyone, I'm sure I will have more questions but I can't think of any

Answers:

1) Bags are also good, especially because full collection may be dumped in one bag. However, you may be shorted.

2) You can only get rolls at banks.

3) You don't take back to the same bank because the tellers may be unhappy that you are both ordering and returning coins (double the hassle). Also, you can be searching through the same coin every time.

4) The "Beginner's Guide" will answer your question. It is the first thread on the page.

1) Bags, Boxes and Loose. Never hurts to ask.

2) Banks, banks, banks

3) NEVER dump your unwanted coins where you pick them up. It's the #1 rule of this hobby.

4) The Beginner's Guide has all these answers. It's a long read, but very helpful.

so you are saying you found 51 40%ers

Yeah I see now that is super rare.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I am reading the beginners guide now.

Congrats on the Noob Beginner's Luck. Don't expect 51 silver coins every time you go hunting.

Welcome to CRH.

I'd settle for 51 silvers total of all denominations. :-\

Good find, and good idea to get the kids involved. Now get them some albums and have them start filling them.
