Well I have a new friend and hopefully a long term hunting buddy. . His name is Bill. He actually located me on this site by my google earth location map ! and then drove to my house . He lives quite close to me ! We have met and chatted a couple of times about going on a hunt together and today it happened ! We had a great time ! Bill is a long time, part time gold prospector here in Maine. Yes we do have a little gold here in Maine. He actually received some notoriety and earned some $$ credit from WHITE's a few years back for letting them show A big nugget he found here in Maine using their detector ! He had never gone on a coin hunt other than getting out and trying to learn his new Whites V 3 on some clad in the park ! Bill was also providing the hunt site today ! An old country fairground in the 1800,s A good drive south of here that also held some Hippie festivals and concerts in the 60's and 70's . then it became a an auto grave/scrap yard ! The new owner cleaned up the site during the recent scrap metal price craze and it is quite huntable now ! Not an easy place to hunt though ! Small car parts still litter the soil everywhere ! It started out slow ! Junk signals everywhere ! I suggested we keep moving till we find a spot not quite so littered ! Then about 20 minutes into digging up car parts Bill called me over ! SILVER he said ! It was his first silver and it was a good one ! An 1881 Canadian 5 cent piece in excellent condition !! You should have seen his smile ! Even after I lectured him about spitting on it and finger cleaning IT in the field. NOW I was hopeful ! Not to far from there I finally got a good coin sounding hit ! A 2 coin pocket spill, a 1926 wheatie and a no date Buffalo. , Then it was Bills turn again in between car parts ! SILVER again he yelled ! I did not let him clean the coin in the field explaining It is possible it could be a 1916 D ect... It turned out to be a 1920 S in very good condition !! Then it was my turn again I yelled 2 him that I think I have a standing Quarter ! I new it was not a Washinton ! After removing a little more of the dirt clumps I saw it was a Seated ! And that after all the lectures to Bill on keeping the coins as pristine as possible that I had hit it with my digger !! Now I need a lecture and I want you guys to give me one !! We both found a few more wheaties and I picked up a no detail V nickel and almost enough car parts between us to build a car LOL !! We will be going back ! MaineRelic
