There are a great bunch of people here.

I personally do not know the MD law in New Jersey. If it is like Pennsylvania, the individual towns and municipalities make the local laws for metal detecting within the town boundaries. You may want to check with the local government to double check.
If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

NJ is a lot like PA. Each town has there own set of rules and regulations. I am from Cape May and there are different rules for where you are doing your MD. I have found that most of the towns down here are not very strict on the laws if you MD for a hobby. They are very strict if you do it as a business
