New md'r

I put in my order for my detector today - Fisher F5. I have been reading posts for the last few weeks and joined this forum today (I thought I had joined a week ago.) I will continue reading the posts. I guess I could sleep for 4 days straight so my toy gets here quicker.

Welcome to T-Net, Vann. Glad to have you with us. Do you have a hunting buddy lined up or a detecting club in your area? If not try to find someone to hunt with, it's much more fun that way and if you have a club in the area join them. You won't be sorry. Again, welcome and Happy Hunting!

Since you are brand new to detecting, I would have recommended a starter machine at a cheap price to get started and learn. Because when you get a higher priced one with the bells and whistles, it can be overwealming and many people give up because they either don't know how to properly use it or tune it, or there is false signals and they think the machine is broken.

I did consider getting one with less bells and whistles. But sometimes it is easier to get one item with a higher price tag then to get a less costly one and get a second one a little later when dealing with my budget committee (wife). I also felt having more room to grow into can be a plus in the long run as long as I remain patient. And I plan on joining my local club (there is one in Fort Worth plus several more within 45 minutes to a little over an hour drive.) With the club and the forums I feel there will be enough resources to help me along. I know I have a lot to learn and appreciate everyone's help.
