New member and new to the hobby

So my family is always pushing me to find a hobby outside of watching NFL football because they are running out of ideas to buy me for father's day and my B-day. I've always been intrigued by this hobby and feel now is the time to start it up. I'm located in Tampa, FL near lots of parks and a drive away from the beaches on the gulf coast.

I'm looking to purchase a starting kit (willing to pay extra for not cheap equipment) which is resistant to water conditions, especially saltwater. Also, gear that can be easily packed up and always have on hand in my car.

Looking forward to seeing suggestions and learning from the experts!!
