New permission. Took my 9 yr old and she had a blast. About 1 1/2 hours and determined this site has been detected before with a lack of targets. Did manage to squeeze out a 1919 Merc and a 1893 Chicago Columbus Exposition token....tosted.
Owner gave the kid and I a tour of the inside and said that during the Civil war the owner of the house stole all the gold from a local bank and the gold has never been recovered! Daughter was fired up....when we found the Merc she was running around with nothing but laughs.....awesome!

Great job introducing the hobby and pulling some nice silver! Interesting little history tale there too! :icon_thumleft:

Ha Ha! I just sent you a PM stating I couldn't like or respond to your post. It must have been on my end. My computer is buggy at times. Great old mansion. Love the stolen gold story. Way cool about your daughter's excitement after recovering that Merc. Treasure has a way of doing that to kids of ALL ages.:headbang:

Wow cool! Good story too! Go out back, find the biggest tree in the woods and start digging ;)

I haven't touches the wood yet but there is 10 acres so my guess is about 6 are woods. Thanks Chef

Check the back yard including woods to search for the gold.

I agree....this place is awesome but loaded with trash and I mean layered with square nails. I was in the back and 200 yards from thd b house and my detector still sounded like a fireworks show. Managed a 1920 wheat but a serious lack of high tones and mid tones....just lots of falsing

Don't know if anyone is interested but got another hour in and found an old buckle and this surprise....925 Sterling tea spoon? Any ideas on how to age these things?

Lol....I've found to sections that have given up some signals....both areas are like 10×10 and both well away from the house. This rang up like a can with some nails by it but I was glad I dug it. The other area was just missed by whomever had hunted this before and I found the 1919 merc and 1893 token. Over 10 acres I hope I find another area...the entire front yard as seen in photo was nothing but iron and a couple pieces of hanger....no mid to high tones anywhere....lol. Someone's been looking for.that gold!

True to that....just may have to work harder is all. Still is fun....I've only found 5 pennies (3 wheats) 2 70's and the Merc....but I will take them all.

I would go back, grid and go slow. Just because its been detected doesn't
mean they found everything. Looks like a promising spot. Good luck!

I like the silver and token. Imagine living in the place, must be nice. :)
