Wolfsdragoons
Greenie
I made it up to my new claim for the first time. This place, right on the boundary between Plumas and Sierra national forest puts the wild in wilderness.
Since I purchased this claim sight unseen, I had some idea what to expect from the gps coordinates and a handful of pictures. I knew it would be an adventure and I got what I expected.
There are no established trails down to the creek, 1/4 mile hike down (and up) at a 45 degree angle to the pristine creek. I only managed to venture 100 yards or so from my initial landing zone, but lots of places to explore.
I managed to find a little gold, however was pretty fine and I was running the sluice too fast with the wrong mats.
Now that I know what I'm in for, I expect the next trip to be more fruitful.
Most of the area around was hydrauliced heavily in the late 1800s into the 40s, though this stretch of creek does not appear to be that worked, at least not for a long time.
I did find a couple of old WW2 German ration tins on the bank across from where I was working.
And yeah there's gonna be bears! Didn't see any, but found a few piles of what initially appeared to be horse apples, so decent size black bears. They didn't bother me and the dogs on the trail or at camp so hopefully it stays that way.
Looking forward to many years ahead getting to know and work my forty acres.
