New rookie in town (NSW Oz)

Hello all,

I just became a member of this forum and must say I am very exited to learn more about treasure hunting. The funny thing is I just ordered my first detectors a Garrett ACE 250 + adventure pack and a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505 Pro and now have to wait for them to arrive.
The choice of detectors was made by reading reviews and other users advice. Apparently the choices I made will not break the bank but hopefully give me a good start in metal detecting.
I know this forum will provide me with the knowledge required to become a successful user and look forward to share my experiences with you. Any advice is appreciated including good sites in New South Wales Australia (South West of Sydney) to start treasure hunting.

Got some disappointing news though, as the company (in the USA) where I thought I bought the detectors now tells me they are not allowed to ship the makes I mentioned internationally. I am not happy as you can imagine! Would appreciate any referral on MD shops in Australia with detectors at reasonable prices (I prefer USA makes).

Hi dutchquade, I have just ordered a Tesoro Sand Shark through Aussie detectors and am waiting for them to ship one in, Not sure of other dealers in oz but if you google "detector sales in Australia" or your state, I am sure you will find something. Good luck. (first I have heard on companies not being able to send detectors internationally)

Hi Mike70,
Well I cancelled my order as the order would not be approved for international shipment by the store in Florida USA.
After looking around a bit more I found a Fisher F5 in Oz from someone who got it as a birthday present in Nov last year but never used it.
I believe this is a pretty good starter detector which I paid AU$450 for including shipping. I hope it will arrive soon.
Waiting is not one of my strong points.
The prices in Australia are usually much higher compared to the USA.
Now I need some accessories to complete it.

hi Dutchquade, may I suggest a decent sand scoop if you are going to do some beach work, when I ordered the Sand Shark I also ordered a travel scoop at the same time. Still awaiting delivery, it seems that Tesoro do not sell their detectors to customers, but send them out to dealers only, then the dealer sends it to another company over here, and I guess, eventually, it gets delivered to you. Don't forget a decent coin probe, (I made my own) and if you need it, a pinpointer.You will need a goodies pouch, and something to carry your other tools in. I made an apron out of denim with 3 compartments in it. Hope that is some help.
