Today my wife and I spent some time at the antique mall. I picked this item up for $8. It looks like it would stand on its own like a small picture frame. The top says "IN SERVICE" and there is a pic of a boy with a pistol. I have no idea what it is other than really cool!

The frame is most likely WW1 era. I haven't seen one with a childhood image of the soldier before, it's kind of neat. I wonder if there's a name on the back of the photo....
 
Agreed......WW1 sweetheat frame. "In Service"...just like the pins and ribbons to wear to let everyone know your son or husband was over there fighting.

I agree, WW1 frame. that is a great image. it's a shame that pictures sometimes don't stay with family members. One time I saw a huge box of old family pictures at an antique store. I thought it was kind of sad

I've seen the same thing at the flea market, really sad someones life story about to be tossed out.
