Hello fellow hunters. Got permission to hunt a site that I have been noticing for a long time now.

It's an early 1900's farm house that the owner says had an original cabin c.1880 on it. The entire site is a couple of acres and I only had a couple of hours to hunt but found some promising items.

I know there is gotta be more and better stuff there because I only scratched the surface...to be continued I hope.

HH and may the finds be with you.

it look like a fun day of detecting, even picked up some harmonica parts and clock parts along with the lil transam car

That's a good start!

You're right, I think you've only scratched the surface. Lots of area to cover, and with relics like the clock parts and harmonica reed, you should be able to score some nice silver and perhaps even some gold bling. Grid it off and go slow.
Looking forward to seeing future posts.

C9,
You must be good luck. No sooner did I reply above and my phone rang. It was the owner of a very early 1900's house sitting on 1/2 acre that I contacted back around Thanksgiving but never heard back from. The house sits vacant here in NC, but the owner lives in NY. It was her mothers house who is now deceased. I was able to track down the NY daughters address through the help of tax records and a reverse address look up. I sent her info through the mail about myself and my hobby, including pictures of some of my relic displays. It worked!!! Yaba daba doo!!!
Thanks for the good karma,

Yo Modern Miner. My pleasure, glad I could be of (percieved) service...it's always good when you get the OK to dig a new spot. Good luck!!

you've made me question throwing away all those shotgun brasses. I can tell those are old. I've dug hundreds and just throw them away without looking to see if there old. I think I'll start looking, nice finds.

AAARRRGGGHH!! Don't throw them out! I guess one man's treasure and all that.

I really enjoy finding them because they fairly easy to date, quite often over 100-YRs old, and they give a good indication of how old the site is.

I think that the "UMC New Club" one in my post is no newer than 1911. I probably have (250) or so pieces of dug shotgun brass, many of them 1900's vintage or older. The old timers down here really must have loved their shotguns because they are usually present at the sites I hunt.

Next time you find one, check this site out for more info, Shotgun

Good luck. C9

or cut out the centers ,file off the edges and polish them up and make brass rings.

Some neat finds, And in no way am I a shotgun expert
But thats the first hull that I've seen with a year stamped on it.............HH

Your dates on your finds are very exciting, you should do well at that site, good luck. I'm agreeing with Gunrunner, first date Iv'e seen too, of course not too many of that brass survives around me. I'm just like Markp, a few times I have used them in the past to date my site. I will pay a little more attention and see if I can find a dated one now.
Very cool finds so far.

Congrats.Looking good.Some nice finds.Iam still searching for a good site.HH.

The shot gun brass dates back as far as 1888. I have found many in of all places - a church yard! I don't believe they have much value other than real historical interest. A good indication of the age of the property. I have also found coins at the church dating between 1699 through 1876!
