You can see the property on a map but it was a chore finding out how to access it. 97 acres of woods, one creek running through and one pond. It took most of our time just trying to find the boundries and familarize ourselves with the land. We did run into some interesting things, an aluminum boat appearently washed in during Isabell wedged in between a couple of trees. Two sites where we found old brick remains and a few trash piles. It was loads of fun exploring it for the first time and I can hardly wait to go back, this time with a better idea of where to hunt.
I did find the key along a foot path and we searched hard to see if anything else was near it, but found nothing. The old broken bottle has a date of 1886. Nana would have killed me I stabbed an antique bowl digging and broke it all to pieces :'( Lucky I didn't hit that .22 bullet and set it off when I dug that up. Also an old oil lantern wick and globe holder. Thanks for looking! HH

Sounds like an interesting site Charlene.....You know those old lanturn pieces have sometime dates on the little turn knob that adjusts the wick ....check it out might have one on it....and for the dish well those things happen!!!! WTG

Great finds Charlene. The key looks to be about 1840-1850 or so. Congrats...Lance

Neat things, Charlene. I especially like the skeleton key....my favorite. :)

Good luck on your next trip. Can't wait to see more pictures.

Nice pic's charlene hope you find more on your next hunt. Burdie

Thanks everyone, just like trk5 and Seeker suggested, I scrubbed the little wheel on the lantern wick and wa la, Manhattan Brass, then what looks like N.V. or N.Y. 60? very had to make out those last ones. Me thinks me needs a bigger magnifying glass ::)
The skeleton key was my highlight of the day too Mona. Are there tricks to dating the key Comfyinvermont? I had no idea how old it was, I'd love to learn how to date them.
I do believe SWR is right on the money too with the broken bottle. I can read PAT A and 1886. It also has an "L" in the center.
I do take the camera with me hunting but never pull the darn thing out until the end of the hunt. Gonna have to snap a few site shots next trip.
I use a BH Land Star, Roadquest, there doesn't seem to be any civil war activity on this piece of land, although the gentleman that was so kind to let us park in his yard and walk in told us his grandmother told of there being an old confederate hospital back in the woods during the war. I've looked and looked and find no references to one existing there.
The 1720's site we hunted a few weeks back yielded some nice civil war finds, its still a honey hole, but they're planting the fields now. :'(
Thanks again everyone for your brain power, I'd be lost without you!

Nice Charlene ! Glad you are getting out there and finding stuff ! Hope to see many more of your finds posted! WTG

So you broke the bowl.... :'( Shoot. :'(

Well....at least you saved the bullet Charlie! :D

Love that key! You did good!

Nana ;)
