Well, I found my next great site. It's not quite around the corner like the my banner field is, but it's still close and much bigger.

First non-trash find was this sweet looking buckle. Amazed me because it was barely 2" deep under a woodchip trail. I think when they blazed the trail they scraped some of the dirt and foliage off before they put the chips down. I've seen these before but don't remember era or purpose (consensus is 18th century shoe buckle), just that they're old:

Found $1.30 in clad, then this token. It was toast coming out of the ground, at first I thought it was an Indian Head, then a Flying Eagle, but after I got home I realized it's neither, but probably a trade token of some sort. Diameter is 19mm.

One of my last finds before heading home was this silver ring with an opal, second silver of the year (but my first ring of 2014):

And here it is all together:

Beautiful 18thc shoe buckle find! :o :occasion14:
Sure wish I could find something that old here.

Buckles like that are tough to find in any decent shape. That's nice!

Pretty lil ring too!

That's a killer complete shoe buckle! Those don't come out like that too often. I got a complete one last year and live it. Yours is much nicer

Wow ........ way to go my friend. You are rockin that T2. Congrats.:icon_thumleft:

Killer buckle, but not knowing what that token says is killing me!
keep us posted!
Kudos,
Carl

I started a peroxide dip but quit when I saw it wasn't doing the coin any good. The front is completely toasted but it looks like there might be an outline of a bust profile of some sort. The rims are more pronounced than normal coins. I feel as though the back has "_ AVE'S" or "_ OVE'S" in the middle of it, and one of the edge words ends in "-RELL". Beyond that I'm stumped.

Can't find anything close on Google either.

Maybe from the Civil War?

It's a 1770's to 1790's Artois style shoe buckle. Your buckle is in great shape! Very tough to find them complete and undamaged.

Without a doubt, the best relic I've found so far is my Artois shoe buckle (see my avatar).

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

I would imagine so but without any further detail or comparisons I have no way of knowing. Some CW tokens were mass produced and are really popular. I don't think this is one of those.

excellent shoe buckle!

Nice condition on the buckles, and that's a beautiful opal ring! Congrats!
