I hunted a new site in Jackson County, Florida that was apparently occupied for thousands of years, if the types of points found are any indication. The owner told me there are plenty of arrowheads on the property, but he has always thrown them out when he plows his fields (for the past 50 years or so). He has no interest in artifacts of any kind. It borders the Chipola river, so it should be productive. The first hunt was great. I found two surface points, and the rest digging in an old sandy wash that once ran to the river.

This was my favorite of the day, and I'm convinced it's a Big Sandy, but it has the broadest base I've seen on one.

This "rock", or core, was laying with the two next to it in the photo. It looks a bit like petrified wood, but I think it's just a chert. I'm not sure if it fractured accidentally or purposefully in that shape. In any case, it's a very cool rock.

Hopefully going back this weekend to look for more!
