I took a ride down a ways with my girls and we hunted around the front of an old school I saw on the old maps. It's been very dry around here and I could see dead grass plugs everywhere from another hunter. I put on my 6x8 coil and took my time around the trees. First signal was an 1893 Indian and I though that was a good sign there might be a keeper or two left for me to dig. I dug a few wheats and then got a nice 39 Merc. Just over about 6 feet I got a choppy 12-38 signal and was hoping for a another wheatie and was surprised to see a thin dark 1919 Merc. I also dug one of those Good Luck penny tokens and the penny was still in the hole. I was surprised to dig a few old coins from one small area and was wanting to get back there after some good rain to hunt the back of the old school.
Father's Day evening my son was wanting to get some driving time he needs to apply on his drivers permit to allow him to get his license. So he chauffeured me back down there to hunt around the back fields. It was the same situation as the front with dead plugs all around. Right away I started finding wheaties and then got a 27 Buffalo. Not too far from there I got a clad dime signal that turned out to be an 1918 Merc. Things slowed down after that for a while but I was focusing on the trashy areas when I got a high squeak signal one way and it went away from any other direction. It acted just like a deep nail but I had to dig to find out. After I cut the plug the signal sounded great on the X1 pinpointer and could see that silver rim in the side of a coin ball. I cracked it open to see an 1899 Barber dime and was happy to see the O on the back. I'm very pleased to pull a few keepers from this spot in these dry conditions. Hope we get some rain soon. HH & GL

Congratz on a couple of very successful hunts! That appears to be a great spot and I would visit it at least a few more times! Good Luck!

Great day & great coinage!

Thanks for sharing with us on TNet. I like the silver, of course, but the IHC was nice too.

Wow you did great, congrats on some fine finds

Wow SD, :headbang: looks like you pulled plenty of goodies. Glad it was a rookie hunting before you hit those sites. I'm due for a couple hunts like the ones you enjoyed. :notworthy:

Thanks peeperdawg! Yeah I love finding the old Indians as much as that shiny silver. I'm down in the southeast here in TN. Lots of old history up where you're at. Good luck out there. Hope you get some rain soon.

Thanks Captain! Yeah it's a small old town with a few old homes to door knock on as well. I'm sure we will be headed down on a few detecting trips here soon.

Thanks A2coins! Yeah mine are still young enough to enjoy the playgrounds as I detect around. I'm fortunate to have 3 kids that go with me from time to time. I know it won't be long before they grow out of it though. And yeah my wife and girls love the rings I dig too.

Thanks Loco-Digger! Yeah maybe he was the pro that left a few behind for the rookie, me! Makes you wonder what has been pulled from a site like this. I imagine there was some really nice old coins dug in the past. I just lucked on a few left over.

Gosh, if you found that many keepers after another mder was there.........you may want to rescan his plugs??
Very nice hunt........one for the diary!!
PS: Nice job multi-tasking, too............:laughing7:

Thanks Chizzy! Yeah I went over all the plugs and was happy to find that they cleared their plugs. I've been in behind some that leave the trash still in the hole. And yeah I like it when I can make the kiddos & wife happy while I get in some swing time. It's about the only way I can make this hobby work for me. Good luck and happy hunting out there!
