Relic Hunting

Yesterday (Feb. 11), I scouted a site consisting of 168 acres near a farm where Doug & I had recovered some .69 cal. 3 ring bullets last spring. It took about 3 hours for me to locate the relics. My finds from the scouting trip are shown on the white background. Today (Feb. 12), Doug and I traveled to the site with snow forecast to hopefully hunt 4 hours. Our recoveries are shown in the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] pic. Doug had a knapsack hook & nipple protector carved from a bullet. I had a carved bullet and a very interesting eagle button. The front of the button had the shield carved out of the eagle’s breast. I dug the button back about 6 inches away from the front. Larry Hicklen of Middle Tennessee Civil War Relics said that he has dug them with the shield and sometimes even the eagle cut out. Some of the button dies and thin brass are the reason for this in addition to a bored soldier carving on them. Never thought I would dig one like that-unusual. Enjpy our video. HH from Doug & Quindy.

I really enjoy the videos. Keep them coming !

Way to go Guys! How in the heck did the snow miss your area? We are getting dumped on over here.
You are off to a super start there. That button with the shield cut out is a way cool find Q. If you find the shield, glue it to a nickel and give it to Dman as a shield nickel. :tongue3:
What is that spike looking thing to the left of the horseshoe? ???
Great hunt. Thanks for the video,
Dug
P.S. Glad to see you had your nipple protector in this cold weather.

Hell yeah ! , Tennessean Relic road trips are worth the ride ;) 40 CW relics that's a nice day's total score and that is a very unusual Eagle button .Well done , now let's hope the storm is a dud . Jersey coast may get ALL rain . Stay warm and a " good show " as usual .

Yet another great video and another new place. Glad you guys found some good stuff and I'm impressed with the total number of finds in such a short hunt. You need to wear that place out if you can. If Dman finds 10 .58 caliber bullets then tell him I want them and will bring him a check for $5.80. I appreciate it! Boom-Baby!!! :laughing9:

MM, the 2 spike looking iron pieces are harrow teeth used to break up clods and pulled by mules or horses. There are a series of those teeth on the piece of equipment. I told Doug we should put them in because some diggers think they are big RR spikes. HH, Q.

great digs and nice video

That's really a virgin site Dawg. Hope you miss the storm. Fortunately, we missed all the snow so the hunt is ON today art a late 1700s house. HH, Q.

Snow was a non-event for us Donnie so let's hunt. HH, Q.

Another great video from another great site. I guess Dman is slowly building up his cheap bullet inventory again? I think I would have had to sneak a target under one of those fresh cow patties for him, lol:tongue3:

OD, he said he got a 55 reading (CW bullet) under a fresh green cow patty but walked off & left it-LOL. HH, Q.

I guess we can't expect any videos of a privy dig any time soon then. I guess we can't blame him though if they are only worth 58-69 cents.

I loved the video again, you guys are the best movie stars I know!

Enjoyed. Some good relics too. 160 acres is lots of ground to cover..could hunt there for awhile.

Great stuff Quindy!
