New tesoro tejon

Well got a new Tesoro Tejon for Christmas today and first thing I did was take it to one of my trusty CW spots. Went over the areas that I took the Vaquero, Cibola, and the Etrac and was very surprised at the amount of finds I picked up. I found two .69 mini balls, two round balls, two fired pistol bullets, and several horseshoes in about a hours time. Was very shocked at the depth this thing gets. Found the small pistol bullet at around 10-11 inches and it sang out like a fat woman at a opera house. Will definitely be taking this back out tomorrow to a recently cleared out/logged CW camp.

Sounds like you got yourself a winner! I would be interested to hear how you rate it against your vaquero and cibola as far as depth goes. Congrats on the new detector!

The Tejon has a reputation for depth, but I've never had the opportunity to try one. Sounds like it'll work well for the hunting you're doing.

Rainyday it's is somewhat deeper than vaquero but I can't tell how much yet. Like I said all items found were from an area I pounded very hard with cibola and vaquero both. I was very positive when I left there before that I had gotten every single signal when I was there. Seems like on the Tejon that lead and brass items are much louder and distinct than other two detectors. I need to get my headphones cause I'm sure there is some deeper targets I missed today by not using them.

Wait 'till you start running it in the audible all-metal mode. She'll find everything that's there. A lot of the stuff I hunt for is tiny and light weight. The Tejon in all metal does an excellent job at finding it. The machine does like it's lead too.

I noticed that on the lead today. It was finding little pieces of melted lead and .69 bullets very easily and always very loud. This machine is definitely a keeper. Found some brass items as well that for the depth were very loud signals

I found my Tejon to be substantially deeper than my Vaquero in all metal. With both machines set to disc out pulltabs the difference is not so great. The Tejon is still deeper but only by a couple of inches. That's quite a bit I suppose. The Tejon is also hotter on lead as mentioned already. It has been my observation with three Tejons I have owned over the years that it is more susceptible to depth loss at higher discrimination settings than other Tesoros I've owned. By contrast, the Compadre doesn't seem to lose any depth from all metal to max disc.

civil war 22 , got a question. Does the ground balance act about the same as the Vaq ? Do you have to adjust the ground balance more ?

Keep writing about you time with the Tejon in the field. I am enjoying reading this. I dont live far but I'm banged up and crippled for a few more months before i can get out and climb rocky face or anything. I have a new Tejon myself but just too banged up to get and I have not used it much. Keep this info coming. I want to hear about you and the Tejon.

Roaddust the tejon is very simple to use and the discrimination is very simple. Ground balancing it is just a easy as the vaquero as well. I have yet to go to an area where I have to constantly re-balance my machine. If I go through an area with a little more chatter I just take my time and by a few more feet it's back to normal. It's a super deep machine and as posted before it's maybe 3-4 inches deeper than vaquero but just as simple to operate as cibola and vaquero.

What is the Tejon like on coins and jewelry when it comes to depth and discrimination? Or is it mainly a relic machine?

I'm not sure on jewelry as I mainly relic hunt but I have found some very deep coins with it.

I had a Fisher 1266X and the dual discrimination was awesome....Found more gold with that machine than any other....If the tejon was the same, I'd probably get one...

I love my Tejon. I sold one a few years ago as with other detectors and could not take it any more and bought another Tejon. So light and is an absolute animal when learned. My first find with the latest Tejon was a nice 2 cent coin at approx. 10" with no problem. Enjoy!
