New To CRH... not really, but

I had no idea that what I was doing was a hobby!
I am very excited about restarting, now that I can say I am doing it as a hobby! I am dreaming that atleast one of my kids will join me.

I was a movie theatre manager. For the last few years of my "career" I went through every roll of change. What I am now trying to get a grasp on, is a big pile of silver and wheat/ older pennies. This box of change has been in my closet for ten years.

Can anyone help me with some tips for knowing what should I should be looking for to preserve and what I could be selling off for silver?

A lot of people are just cherry-picking silver half dollars. Anything 70 or earlier.

I bet you have some goodies tucked away in that closet too.....ha! Once your done sorting through them let us know how it turns out.....I am curious.

OMG!!! Your talking about a 3 cent piece right? What year is it? Silver or nickel? I knew you had some goodies in there......Congrats Mr. G!!!

The Red Book shows the silver 3 cent pieces were from 1851-1873 & the nickel was 1865-1889. I guess from from 1865-1873 they made them in both silver and nickel?? It also says 1851-1853 were 75% silver and 1854-1873 were 90% silver.

According to the Red Book....1873 was either 90% silver or nickel. Read my post above. Reading a little closer it also says the 1873 silver was made in proofs only. That coin would be worth BIG bucks!!! Can you tell if it is silver or not? Would love to see a picture. What a find!!!

You know when one of your kids asks for a digital camera for Christmas and you think, I'll just get her a crappy one... UGH! I am still trying to get a pic. I am leaning toward nickel, but it is in such great shape!

Okay...does the obverse have a star or a head on it? If it has a star it is silver and worth many $$$.....if it is a head it is nickel and still worth $30-$40 bucks.....according to this Red Book.

Just curious, was the 3-cent coin in a roll you just got from the bank or a roll you had stashed away during your previous searching that you were looking at again?

It was in a roll that I had for some time and obviously hadn't searched. It had clad dime in with it and a few silver. I am not sure where the roll came from. The movie theatre had an arcade also. There was always kids trying to dump coin collections so they could play games. This roll may have been from that and I just never got to opening it.
