Hello detectors,

Living in the North Florida area and strongly considering getting into the hobby/sport? of detecting.

I've been reading reviews out the wazoo and would like some advice....

I'm looking for a detector to get introduced to the sport. I'm considering parks and beach. (Assuming it stays legal..... :) )

Entry level anound $200.00

There is a Whites and Tesero dealer in town. Currently a Whites Phase IV at a pawn shop....

Everybody has an opinion.... right now i'd love some experienced ones....

Thanks in advance!

First, welcome to the addicts corner. We who are already addicted salute you.

My dectector is a White's Coinmaster Pro, and will find things pretty deep. Deadly on bands that hold pencil erasers on, up to 4 inches deep.

You state you're interested in searching beaches and parks. Beaches are much different detecting on than parks. Sand and salt-water spray can injure a detector quickly. If using a detector on a beach, or in salt water, the detector MUST be waterproof! Waterproofing a detector will add $$, so if you're looking for a detector under $200, stay with a used White's, Garret's, Tesoro, or similar. Go to a dealer and test several models. Not everything you test will be to your liking. Only you will know the differences. Keep your eyes open, and check the classified ads on TNet as well: some pretty good buys available from our members.

Keep asking questions. Don't ask for what has been found until later in your research. Try to find a detector you can work with easily, and see what is available in your area, or at least has low shipping costs.

Hello. I'm going to be in PCB during February and will be trying some metal detecting myself. I have an older unit that I'll be using to see if I like the hobby before investing in something better. Are they talking about making detecting on the beaches illegal?
