All Treasure Hunting
After 50 years I finally bought a metal detector. I'm excited and i know the kids are too. I have always wanted to get one. I bought a simple one but it sounded like a good beginner machine. The Bounty Hunter iv. Once i get my feet wet i want to upgrade and pass this one to the kids. But for now, its mine.

I live in the Los Angeles area and have tried to look up MD laws but cant seem to find any. So now im checking the forums. If anyone can help guide me i would appreciate it.

Take care,
Gene A.

Welcome Aboard! Take a look at Forum:California for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Gene, welcome to T-Net and enjoy your detector. Don't be discouraged when you see how much trash is in the ground, just properly dig it up and take it out with you to dispose of it. Keep in mind that if you find a place where there are countless pulltabs (the old variety) there's a great chance there will be some gold (jewelry) there as well!

Setup a test garden of coins and trash to help you practice too.

Great to have you here. You have some awesome beaches not all that far. Not in the water but up where folks are throwing down their towels to start. Just enjoy the site here and do a lot of reading then get into the metal detector manufacturer section. Find some of the folks in that section to help answer questions and message them or throw out that question. You might be surprised how many others were thinking the same thing.. But get out and swing. If you can find relatively clean areas, then great. But I don't think there are any on the left coast. Just get out and burn some batteries and you be glad you did. It's surprising how relaxed you can come home feeling when you forget all the daily crap and listen to the machine. Once again it's great to have you and get those kids in there too!
