A box of nickels is 100.00. I am not sure about dimes as I have never gotten any. It might not be a bad idea to call to possibly save you a trip. Just call your bank, let them know you are a member, and ask them if they have any halves. If they say they do, ask them to save them for you. If they don't ask them who you would have to talk to to order some. That is basically it.

HEY Thanks...well its a start and Im off to the bank first thing tomorrow...Ill post my results as I get them.Any other info on this is appreciated.

Take a little extra money with you, and if you see another bank on the way to yours, whether it is the bank you are a member of or not, stop and see if they have any. One of my best results last year was a bank I stopped at on the way to kinfolk, I bought a 1000.00 bag, they were glad to get rid of them, and I got several 90% and over 250 40%.

Dimes go for $250.00, just got my first box tonight.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but every time I have tried to call ahead for a box of anything so I can pick it up after the vault teller has gone home (haven't tried halves) they try to charge me a fee. So I just quit calling ahead since they usually don't even bring a fee up then, unless to tell me that they are waiving the fee they usually charge. I sometimes can't get anything then as they can't get access, but at least I didn't pay a fee for them. And it has been consistent at all banks I have tried except for my credit union.

Just something to consider.

Hello,

Personally, I do not call ahead, unless I ordered the coins and I want to be sure they arrived. I live in a metropolition area. There are 100's of bank branches with in a 20 mile radius (maybe 10 mile radius). I belong to two banks and a credit union. Most will order coins for me. Sometimes at a few branches they start to get tired of walking to vault and getting the coins. They would prefer to just sit there all day and eat doughnuts for lunch! ;D They may say, do you have a commerical account, or we might have to start charging you. If I skip that branch for a while, then come back a month or so later I start the cycle again. This is only if I am getting good coins there.

It is worth it to just drive around and hit every single bank you see. Many tellers dont even know what a silver coin is, or even the coin. One bank charged me a dollar apiece for Kennedy 50 cent coins. Of course, I pointed out that it says half dollar right on it. Just gettting what they have in their tray or personal safe at their feet is good. I have got entire rolls of silver this way. Many tellers are friendly great people. There are a number of banks, that have ordered me boxes and I am not even a member. Of course, if they ask, I am a member. ;)

You will be surprised how many people roll search halves. Many will have boxes, that they will not give you, as someone had ordered them. One time I went to a bank out of my area. They had a few hundred dollars worth. I was thinking Sweet! ;D Then this old guy about a 100, at the next window shouts to the teller, THOSE ARE N'T NEW ARE THEY. The teller turns to him and says, no we searched them and pulled out the silver for you! ??? Well, I passed on those.

GMan,

You mean they want to charge you, never heard of this - maybe the tellers in my side of town haven't caught on to this. Between the two banks I go to, all either one asks is that I need to let them know what I'm requesting by Monday so they can add it to whatever they want when they order the money. I can then pick it up on Wednesday after the armored cars comes or the next day. Sorry to hear that they're acting dumb over this as they can't do business without the armored car comming to them once a week anyhow - go figure.

I get $500 boxes of dimes from B of A. They are in clear rolls so are easy to check for silver.
