Hi guys! New to this forum, been lurking for a couple weeks admiring everyone's awesome finds!!

About a month ago while out scouting for turkeys on my hunting land I just happened to look down and laying perfectly flat on the ground at the tip of my boot was my first point!! I used to look for them as a kid but never found one, and I have to say I was extremely excited! I have bow hunted these woods my entire life and to hold that point in my hand was pretty special!

I don't know much about the names/dates of points so any info on this I would greatly appreciate! It measures around 2 1/4" if the tip had been intact.

Little info on the area. I am in North Central WV. There is a nice sized field bordering the 400+ acres where I hunt with a stream running through it. 40 or so years ago when that field was plowed for corn my grandfather found some nice points in there but never actually looked for them. The location I found my point is about 1/2 mile away on a bench that is about half way down a big ridge with a stream at the bottom. I believe the reason I found the point is because the property was recently logged as the dozers turned it up while making roads. I REALLY want to spend some time looking for artifacts now but I am a bit lost on where to start exactly. Should I be looking in that same area my point was found?

Sorry for the long first post and I appreciate any help!!

Little more info I should add....there is a small cave approximately 100 yards inside the woods from the field I mentioned in my first post. South of that area are two long ridges running SW and meet up with the river about 1.5 miles away. I found my point half way between the field/cave area and the river. There are also several rock overhangs in the area as well. Again, thanks for any info. I am really enjoying this site!

Welcome to T-net, Flinginairos. Nice find! Cant help much with I.D., I think its safe to say its at least a few thousand years old, maybe older. As far as places to hunt, I would say everywhere you mentioned above. Because they do not deep plow around here anymore I find most of my stuff on high ground over looking the confluence of a creek and a river, or just two creeks. I also find lots of stuff in our creek, or any washouts in the fields. Hope this helps, Good luck, look forward to seeing some more finds. H.H.

Shovel and screen in and around caves overhangs...moss takes on a dark and bright colors from soot caused by fire in cave or overhang...look for chips in mole hills....
