hello all i went back to the scene of my 1st and 2nd lc finds. i realized that i was dealing with a site no one has been around in a very long time. so everything is very deep. so i turned off the disc turned up the sensitivity and detected my boots a couple dozen times my keys and cell phone also. I did however find to really old buckles, a fork looking whatsit. alot more hand made nails than are going to be pictured, a folding knife with some wood left on the handle, shotgun shells(darn things fake me out every time) and the bowl of a very old pipe that has a bird on 1 side and a tree on the other. I'd love to find the garbage dump for this place. everything i'm finding is pre civil war except the shotgun shells of course. broken red ware plates old pottery shards and surprisingly very little broken bottles. well we have another beauty of a day here on long island so i'm heading out. good luck and hh to all

Great old artifacts! I don't have to tell you to keep digging cuz I know you will. LOL ;D

Re: newest member of dig everything club

Those shotgun brass sure suck don't they ? They always sound like a nice brass button, but I guess we have to expect those. I like the old buckles. They are always a favorite to find.

grib i have found so many that i have gotten to were i have a pretty good idea that its a shotgun shell you are right tho they do totally suck

Great finds I really like the buckles and pipe.

Very nice relics. Congrats. Neat pipe. Those shotgun shells get me every time too. I wish they were coins. ;D
Great pictures.
Thanks,
MM

Yep, after a few times hunting the woods, you learn to recognize the sound and the VDI reading of about 20 to 35 (on the MXT) of those shells; though particularly annoying are those shells that sometimes read higher on the meter. I hate them! Nice finds though, especially those colonial buckles. Keep 'em coming!

Nice collection of old finds. If that is a clay pipe it could be pretty old. I've seen some carved clay pipes come out of Civil War huts.

Great finds-the pipe bowl- is my favorite! I used to live in E. Northport-I miss LI so much. I'll have to look you up for some MDing next time I'm up visiting the folks. Do you have any info. re. Ft. Salonga??

no artimus i found them over in cold spring harbor. i've looked up the pipe and it was whats called a tavern pipe made of clay from the early 1800's.
