My wife and I thought today with sunshine and warm temps would be a nice day to go swing the coils a little.
We headed back to the farm house that I had hit this week to finish up the back yard. We hunted for close to an hour with not much luck when she wanted to take a quick little break.
We looked at all of the super old grave stones across the street and walked over to read some of them. When you look at some of the dates going back into the early 1840's it makes ya stop and think. It was pretty cool and also pretty sad when you got to read the stones.
After about 40 minutes we walked back across the street to the farmhouse and fired up the old Etrac and the bounty hunter and, started to work our way back towards the side of the house.
About 10 minutes back into the hunt I got that sweet high silver sound and look down to a nice little 11/45 ( which normally means a silver dime ). Sure enough up pops a nice little roise. I recheck the hole and nothing. After taking 3 more steps again, I hear that sweet high silver tone. This time the it reads 12/46. I think oh boy here we go this should be a silver quarter and, sure enough from about 3 inches ( most all the coins even the 1852 three cent silver and and large cent ) all came from 3 inches or less. Out pops a nice little silver Washington quarter.
My wife as been skunked pretty much of the time today so, she gives me " the look " ( all you guys know "the look" ) and, asks ( tells me ) are you ready to go now. ::) What can I say but "yes dear". and we head right to the truck to head out.
We take the long way home looking at all the old homes and just enjoying the day. Now, it's time to do the garden work. Pull the weeds, add more dirt, mix the dirt. You know all the fun stuff.
Then she wants me to fix a couple of things around the house. Again, lol after being married 27 years "yes dear" pops right out of my mouth. All the while thinking I would love to be still swinging the coil.
Making sure I get everything done as fast as I could I make my way to the truck and pull out the Etrac lol to search my yard. lol I did not think I would get much ( no kids and I'm cheap ) but, right away I started to find a few clad coins. Then I got a 1919 wheat penny. :o
After I got done with my small yard my wife tells me to go ask the neighbor if I can search his yard. I think ok this I can do if I have to. ::) I walk up to the door and knock on the door. Just a few moments go by when I have permission to hunt his yard.
Now, this yard I thought might get me some goodies. Boy was I right. Right away I hit wheat penny after wheat penny. And, within 10 minutes I have 5 wheat pennies when there goes that sweet high silver tone. Funny how that tone can stop ya dead in your tracks. lol
Looking down it has locked onto 11/45. Being careful with the knife I cut a nice little plug and out pops a merc. :o I call my wife over and she starts to smile and calls me a few choice names that I can not use in here and, laughs.
She goes back to playing with the dogs when about 20 minutes later I get another high tone but, this time it is bouncing a little from 10 to 12 but the 46 locks hard and does not budge. I pinpoint and it make sure I leave enough room to not scratch anything.
I lay the plug open and in the edge of the plug I see a big silver edge. Calling my wife over to share ( never to brag ::) but to share the find ). She smiles and starts to look into the hole and I say no look at the plug. Looking at the side she sees the big silver edge too and thinks it's a quarter.
Reaching into the side of the plug I pull out a nice walking liberty half dollar. ::) ;D :tongue3:  She just looks and laughs. About 20 minutes later as she is asking ( telling me ) if I want to go with her to take the dogs for a play I say right after I dig this high silver tone. Again the Etrac shows me 11/45 and pays me off with another merc.
I shut the Etrac off and make a bee line for the house and take the dogs for a nice play. The tally for the day was over 85 coins, two toy cars, two keys,a junior fire Marshall ring, two rosies, two mercs, one silver washington, and one walking liberty half dollar.
Here is a pic of the silver coins before I clean the dirt off of them. I hope you enjoy the pic and, thank you for looking.
