Hi friends,

John finally had a chance to detect for a little bit yesterday. He found another first for him--an 1871 shield nickel. Also a pretty decent 1921 Buffalo nickel. Another big mystery coin (looks bigger than a large cent) that I will have to work on when I see John next. A tiny gilded button (little gilt left), and other assorted stuff. Hope you all have a nice week! Thanks for looking. -Lisa & John

Keep chasing those low signals and you'll be rewarded. Not only is there some great stuff that ring in low, I've personally had nickels masking feeling high signals.

Love the shield nickel. Cheers

Thanks for the tip, Scrappy! Will do. -L&J

The people that lived there must have been really bad at sewing pockets! Coins everywhere! I hope you ID that large coin, looks old. How many coppers from this property now?

Hey Rubka, yeah--lots of "holey" pockets on the property--and lots of people walked there, as it was once a stagecoach tavern. Many coppers thus far...maybe 10 or so? Enough so that I don't remember the exact count, lol. Nothing compared to some folks on here, though! Thanks for looking. ~Lisa & John

Nice finds, will you clean those coins? If so what is your technique?

Hope you can ID the disc... and if it does date to the late 1600s dig everything! A lot of the early stuff doesn't necessarily sound good in the ears, plus as Scrappy mentioned you might unmask the good stuff which often will be below the "modern" artifacts.

I try to clean the ones that can't be identified. Soak in warm hydrogen peroxide and gently work at it with a toothpick. There are other methods, many listed on this website, just take a look around! :-) Thanks, Lisa

That's some good stuff! Congrats

congrats on the shield nickel, and other digs. Good date on the shield too. From what I am seeing they only made 561,000 of them. Kind of a small number compared to most of them.

Those are some super finds. Congrats. Really like the nickels.

Right, Joe! We noticed that, too. John's 2017 coin book says that date is worth $80 in the worst condition. Really cool! :-) Thanks, L&J

Thanks, Iron! You know, we love the nickels too. BUT...still waiting to find an old quarter! Take care, ~L&J

Nice finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

Sweet finds, I love your site!

Thanks, Treble! John finds quite a bit more signals after it rains. Made me not mind the rain as much! -L&J
