It is now 9:00 a.m. EST. At 9:30 a.m. EST ... I will be

60 HOURS SMOKE FREE!!!

I'm doing it! YEAH!!!

I will have to admit, I do have help. I am taking Chantix, and on top of family and friends giving me inspiration!!!

This is a small step, but each step is one less I have to take.

I have urges to grab a smoke still...but it's not the nicotine urge, it's the habit urge. I have NOT changed how I do things. I have to learn to still do the same activities without smoking.

Today, I will go out and clean my car...scrub my ashtray...steam clean my car seats and carpets. It will take some time for the smell to dissipate...but I hope in time...you will never know I smoked in my car!

Then I will clean my office top to bottom.

This is the beginning of the rest of my life and Baby....am I going to live!!!
Annmarie

PS: Now, I have to get hubby to quit....cause I will say this....when he lights up....EWWW! I want to gag, it stinks!!!

Bully for you AnnMarie. I quit 40 years ago ,cold turkey, gave pipes and smokes away and never looked back, then got Nancy to quit too. I will however follow a good smelling for a city block. I know ,my bad. Bob

You can do it! As weeks pass it will be easier for you, hang in there! Tom

OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!

When I did the Great Treasure Net Smokeout back in Nov 2007 the coolest thing I got was a link from FelinePeachy - a Quit Calculator - and it's been running non-stop on my computer ever since.

Get your Quit Calculator here: http://www.silkquit.org/stop-smoking/quit-meter.aspx

It runs on your bottom toolbar and is awesome! You can open it and see all your Smober Time stats... heres mine thats been running since 1 November 2007:

STAY WITH IT!!!

Thanks Bob, Jim, Tom and TT!!!

I'm taking a break from cleaning my car...it's HOT as all get out!!! WHEW!!! Had to cool down and get something cool to drink!

Montana Jim....WOW! Thank You! I will download it! That is the coolest!!! And thank FelinePeachy for giving it to you!

TT....I am still taking the money out ($5.00) a day and putting it in my vacation fund. That is avg, cause it depends where you go in town to buy a pack. Where I work, it's $7.89 for a pack of Marlboro, but Walgreens and Wawa, it's about $4.69. What a difference ... huh? So, since I smoked a pack a day, $5.00 a day comes out and goes in my vacation fund. In 2011, I am taking my kids to Ireland and England. It will be my 55th yr of living and it will be my birthday present to me! My grandfather was born in Dundalk, Co Louth, Ireland and we are going to see all of Ireland we can. And England, that is where my great grandma was born and I recently made contact with 2 fourth cousins and they are still living in the area my great grandma was born and raised....so it will be a wonderful time! So, all my cig money is going towards our family out of country, back to our homeland vacation!

Well....back to the car, want to steam clean the seats and let it dry while it's HOT out there! LOL

Boy, that car smells so nasty...I hope I can get it smelling good!

Thanks ya'll! I will succeed, I have so far now for nearly 64 hours!

:hello2: :laughing7: :laughing9: Annmarie

Very Good AnnMarie. You can do it. If I did it, anyone can. Come October 1, it will be six years for me. I haven't cheated once. I breathe better, I sleep better, I detect longer!!!

Keep it up, you will do fine.

DM

8 months for me! I dream I am smoking! Never did that before. Keep it up, it gets easier. Monty

Thank you EVERYONE! Nice to have support group and cheering!!! :)

Happy to say it has now been:

4 Days, 21 Hours and 57 Mins

I have saved approx $36.86 by not smoking approx 147 cigs and added 12 hours and 15 mins back to my life! (Thanks Montana Jim...love my countdown thingy!!!)

And it's all about moving forward...one step at a time! The habit desire is still there...but I keep my wits about me!

Again THANK YOU!!! {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} To Everyone!

I'm a Chantix success story too! I still had the urge but didn't climb the walls! The main thing is , you have to really want to quit. I quit several times under pressure but didn't really want to and that's why I backslid so many times. (10 times)! Now my health is shot, lungs and heart, and it may be too late but at least I don't smell like smoke nor does my house or my wife and dog! I can really tell when someone else has been smoking where before everyone smelled like smoke to me and I couldn't tell the difference. Oh, and I gained a lot of weight. It's a good idea to get on an exercise plan while you are in the early stages of quitting. It helps rebuild lungs and heart function as welll as helps curb the need for tobacco. See,now I am an expert quitter! Just don't go nuts like some I have known and start lecturing others. It always turned me off and I resented it so I just smoked more! Helpful hints and encouragement are fine, but don't preach. Say Amen! M ;D nty

Keep up the good work! I need all the help I can get and reading this helps, started the Chantix six weeks ago. Still at a pack a day but working hard to break this habit. (love the cool dreams, better than the "b" horror flix we watch on Saturday nights! )

When I quit I had been smoking 2 packs a day forever. Never thought I could quit. I got a prescription for Chantix and started taking it. I continued smoking while taking the Chantix. I went to the hospital for surgery to clean the junk from an artery in my neck. I had every intention to keep smoking after I got out of the hospital. After a few days, I was released and left the hospital. I had my butts and lighter in my jacket pocket and figured I'd light up as soon as I exited the hospital. Didn't even get the urge. Rode home and figured I'd light up when I got home. Nope, still no urge. I have not smoked now since Dec. 19th, 2006 at 4:30AM. Still no urge. You can do it Ann and congrats just for trying.

Annmarie !!!

Congratulations !!! I know you'll be successful.

I'm amazed at the cost savings. I did a quick brain calc and you should have around $3500 in the vacation fund by this time 2011. Exercise is always benificial so that is some good advice especially at this point. A friend of mine that was in the process of quitting, instead of exercising, decided to pick up a paint brush every time he got the urge. He made one pass around the whole house including under the bathroom sinks and four coats on the living room before he decided he was good to go. LOL

Great job, keep it up, you can do it.

Jim

I wish you the best of luck Annemarie- but I also gotta say a little something about Chantix. For me and many others (researched) Chantix causes depression, sometimes severe, so be cool and if you start feeling bluesy take a look at another cessation method.

Chantix was the greatest thing in the world for me- didn't even care if I smoked or not- but the depression was pretty bad. Just take care, ok?

My Thanks be,
for my cleaner lungs,
today in a way;
to the support
lead by MontanaJim,
in November 07.
Every day tastes better, without tobacco.

Mike

Okay, before I confuse anymore folks....

I am LadyDigger, the BETTER HALF of RonandAnn.... I ventured on my own, not that I really needed too, as Ron NEVER posted a darn thing. He just comes on here and looks at the pretty pictures and reads the fantastic stories!

But since I really could not change the name (RonandAnn is set in stone, but I could change what name you see)... anyways... I wanted my own space, my own quiet place! LOL and I change RonandAnn to MINELAB RON!

I am the one who posted this thread!!! Ron has NOT quit smoking. It's hard at times and I have to admit, I have fallen off the wagon a couple of times, but I keep truckin'....I won't give up! I know I will succeed, I will conquer, I will overcome the "Wrath of the Tobacco Devils"...

And I have no problems when outside the home. At work, at play, whatever, I have NO DESIRE!!! It is when I come home. I have been scubbing my house down, washing walls, throwing or giving things away (too much clutter), you name it, I am trying to get it all done!

When Ron lits up first thing in the morning, OMG, I want to gag! I really do, but as the day goes on, the smell is "Mmmm, wonder how I would react to one puff?" I have been fighting it...I guess I just need to stay out of my house more often!!! Ron said he wants to quit, but only because of the cost!

I am now at 3 Weeks, 15 Hours, 9 Mins.... but as I said, I did fall off a couple of times in this time frame. But that does not mean I failed! That does not mean I give up! I have also put on about 10 pounds, OMG!!! I started exercising yesterday...well, I decided I am going to walk around the block a couple times a week, then work on everyday and then get into the situps, and all!!! I need to get my buns to the beach and do some detecting. I have NOT been doing it at all this year, and getting out and doing it...I lose weight, besides, I need to find out what our lovely tourists are leaving for me on the beach to find! hehehe

So, I am still at it and I am plugging along and I will WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your support, and your kind words!

Try walking down the aisle of a walmart or some other store behind a smoker. :-X :P :icon_pale: :sad1:

That would be weird for me to see. There is no smoking in any workplace here (and in a growing number of places around the world), including restaurants, bars & night clubs (and 10 feet away from the door of same).
At first there was the expected reaction, but now it's just accepted and smokers go outside. All the bars/nightclubs are still in business and in fact new clubs are still being built or renovated.

"No Smoking" - coming soon to a workplace near you.

Congrats on quitting ! :icon_sunny:

It's funny how a smoker won't notice the smoke smell on someone, but a non-smoker can. Sort of like how obvious it is if someone has alcohol on their breath, but if you're in a bar drinking, you don't smell it at all.

I have noticed that things don't taste especially better to me but they taste stronger. I love saurkraut and weiners but the last time Kay fixed it, the saurkraut tasted really bitter to me. Also I rarely use salt on my food anymore. Salted foods tastes like someone dumped the shaker on it. The subtle taste of different kinds of black pepper is noticable now. Fresh ground now has a spicey taste to it instead of just kinda' hot. Can't eat sharp cheese anymore. It tastes like a dirty sock smells! Really strange how so many other things have changed their taste to me since I quit. When I first decided to quit for the 11th time I was still lighting up now and then. With the Chantix, I found that only a couple of puffs seemed to satisfy me instead of a whole cigarette. I'd light up and take a couple of drags and put it out. Gradually that ceased and I was finally free of tobacco one day last fall when I went to visit TexanConnection. I bought a pack, lit one and didn't get any enjoyment out of it so I put it out and gave the pack to Albert. That's the last smoke I had. That was before Thanksgiving last year. I never felt depressed, but did get a little antsy when I thought about smoking for a couple of months. Even now when I go to the convenience store I think about buying a pack, but something in the back of my mind always tells me, "No, you don't want to do that!. Monty
