Found this today in an area in New York that dates back to Rev War. No idea what it is...

Possibly copper/brass? Not really sure.

It makes me think of a gate latch the half round open part would go over a rod and lock the gate, handle lifted and hole is attached so it would toggle up and down.

It could be a gate latch but would not be surprised if something else.
