Me and my friend have found 4 of these total in a field that once stood two houses dating back to as early at the 1820s... we've never found anything like this before. Thanks for any help!

Wait .. I am not convinced that is the case! I see no center groove for a leather or washer. It could well be a "bell" off of a check row corn planter chain.

It was in a corn field... so that could be a definite possibility too.

You may be right creskol.
The bells Ive looked at are 3/4" Dia. and are one piece cast , many of the the well chains are lead on a wire chain link.

The pump chain pieces at this link are 1-5/8 Dia.with the seal.
