I found this at the beach by metal detector. Doesn't seem to be magnetic. Could anyone identify what it could be?

Do you have any black sand at this site?

Did you test this with a magnet? I have found clumps like you. Mine would be attracted to a Rare Earth magnet, but might not stick. Especially in this size.

Hi there, no black sand. And I've just done better test with magnet on string. It attracted to the magnet as well but same like your one, won't stick. On the black side it looks a bit like coal. That side looks lighter than the other one but it's smooth and doesn't sully my hands when I touch it. Other side is heavier and it's kind of silver.
Do you have picture of your one? And did you find out what it is?

It looks like basalt. Did it sound like a negative or positive hot rock?

I'm not really sure about positive and negative sound as I'm quite new with metal detecting.. What detector you use?

One sounds like a regular target, the other kind of a drawn out "mmmboing" sound. I have multiple detectors but the sounds are similar to all of them.

I have not found anything as large as you have. Maybe quarter size. I have seen low grade iron clumps give signals. While these will not react to a regular magnet they will attract to a much stronger Rare Earth magnet.
That is why I asked if it reacts to a rare earth magnet.

You have a cool whatsit.
