I went to Dollar General to ask for some of their boxes that they had inside. The guy told me that they no longer give away free boxes. And they're not for sale they recycle them and nobody can have any. I thought that made sense let's make sure we just throw all way instead of letting somebody use them whatever. So couple blocks away is another Dollar General where I got boxes before and this is what the outside looks like.

So much for them not giving Them away anymore I was able to get 30 of them. They only had about 15 carts completely full.

It is probably a corporate mandate.

Scrap corrugated is a big business. Even my small local scrap yard is now into scrap corrugated, which tells me there is money in the stuff.

Wonder how many pounds to make some $? Not that I want to collect boxes. Tried Aluminum off mc electrical wire. Got $1.23 for a large bag full!

Most are willing to give them to you it must be a money thing or the rules rules no common sense any more

I worked for Services at an Air Force base. Recycling was one of the activities that made very good money. The guy in charge of it at the time would climb into a dumpster to retrieve a cardboard box. Of course it wasn't only cardboard they handled, but there is money it.

Our center released a news article about this Monday. They get $5 a ton for the boxes. And it wouldn't take many to make a ton. Anyone ever see a bail of boxes? That's about 1 to 1.5 tons varying on thickness. So yup there's money in it.

Last summer I was taking bags of cans from the curbs until a cop stop me and told me recyclables are not considered" public trash" and said I must stop. Oh we'll enough on the country roads to keep me busy.

I would think with how skeleton crewed most police departments are from their "cut-backs" he would have better things to do then harass people recycling trash. Apparently there aren't few enough police in that area yet if he has time to focus on people recycling cans instead of more urgent matters... maybe this is why it takes police 45 minutes to show up after a break in to fill out paperwork.

That officer was obviously doing his duty. If you aren't supposed to take recyclables than this person was breaking the law. Most likely some level of theft. That is his job, not just the high profile murders rapes and I.d. Theft. Please try to support the men in blue or at least empathize with them for the tough thankless job they do, usually undermanned and over worked. Please don't jump to the conclusion that he is wasting your tax dollar by enforcing the smaller laws. Thank you.

I served my country for 6 years in the military, I can spout off about police officers rousing people anytime I like, thank you.

In reference to your boxes, Try Sam's Club or Costco. They give away boxes a lot just to carry stuff out.

Many reasons why police do what they do, from cans to homicide investigations. Some just don't understand. I have served my community as a police officer for 19 years, and sometimes I can't understand why the police administrators write the policies they do.

And thank you for your service!

USPS will deliver TONS of free boxes to your door!! go to www.usps.com click click click and voila! drag'em inside! Ask me how I know...I deliver said boxes...thx! ddf

I served 5 years in the military. And 3 years so far in law enforcement. What have I learned?? Respect. Guess I've said enough. I guess I feel kind of strong about this.

I've worked in a recycling yard and I believe we'd get a around a grand or two for shipping a trailer of cardboard out. We never paid for cardboard that customers brought in, but we would accept it for free so long as it wasn't mixed with other materials.
