Nice finds! Toothpick gently to remove the crud and leave well enough alone! Water will destroy a copper coin.

I've used a toothpick to get as much as you can off and then very lightly 0000 very find steel wool. I do use Andre pencils also. Works for me.
 

I always do cold peroxide on my Indian heads. Sometimes I leave them in for weeks. It’s much less abrasive than warm peroxide and slowly removes the crud. It will darken them though

No water; dry brush with toothpick and toothbrush...old coppers found in the ground seldom look good (at least where I hunt).
