My girlfriends dad bought a metal detector to find a ring he had lost. He wasn't having any luck using it, so she asked if I would help him out a bit. It didn't help that the machine he bought was a piece of junk, and would only detect a coin laying on the surface. I swept mine over the yard, and started digging up the usual hundred year old house junk, so I switched to coins mode. The first target I got was this.

The next one I got was a clad dime, and then it was too dark to see, so we decided it was time for a beer.

The next day, I went to a gun show, and it was almost empty of buyers, with 900 tables of sellers. One had a breast plate, button, 5 .44 pistol bullets, and an original cartridge box in a nice little display, and made me an deal I couldn't refuse, so here they are. I took them out of the case for photo purposes. Two of the bullets still had some of the paper attached. The breast plate had the hooks broken off of the back. Not sure why, unless the old guy did it so it would fit flat in the case ???

The SLQ looks great.

I think you'll find the cartridge box is worth more than the cartridges! Monty

LOL....it's been several decades since I was considered young, but thanks !

The SLQ aside, the value of the gun-show snags probably goes in this order:
Plate
cartridge box
button
bullets

I really don't like buying relics when they are of the same thing that I can find locally, just because they mean more to me when I find them, but this really was a deal I couldn't pass on.

very nice,it looks like your detector works just fine.Congrats!!!

Thanks !

I didn't even wash it. Just brushed the dirt of by hand, and that is the way it came out of the ground.

Wrap it up,I'll take it.......We all need weekend's like that,Congrat's and Many More

I doubt that you will ever dig up a cartridge box and bullets in that shape, so don't worrry about dug vs bought. It was a good buy and I would have snapped it up too! Monty
