Not a video, but have a question about camcorder

I asked for a flip video minohd camcorder for christmas because i want a simple pocket camcorder to use for metal detecting. Does anybody use this brand or this camcorder for when they take videos or is there any other camcorder in the $100 price range that is more suitable..cuz using it for when i metal detect would be its main purpose
