I returned to the field where I scored the 1810 LC and silver thimble on Tuesday. Just as I expected there doesn't seem to have been a lot of activity on the site. I got some round balls and another tombac. The IHP and a few wheats came from another part of the field. I also got my first what I believe to be a very early nipple button. Very glad to have it as it was what I was hoping to find. The area Im hunting was settled in the mid 1600s

Nice relic recoveries, congratulations! :occasion14:

I think you are right it about the button. It looks the same as the one i got some time ago. The metal composition almost had me thinking it was silver right out of the ground, because it was shinny, and heavy for it's size.
Yours also appears the same diameter as the one I found.
...searching...it was 2014, nov. 20.

Nice button! I've only a couple of them. Congrats

Have dug a few of them myself, but never on this side of the pond. Congrats on the button a real cool find..

Congrats on digging a first toasted. :occasion14: How long was the hunt?

I think the flat back with domed front puts it firmly in the 1600s

Nice 1600s button find! I learned about a new button variety from your thread.

Yeap, its mid-late 17th C. These are associated with our CW period. (Not Military as such but they had no regular uniform at the time)

Nice work, now I have to go through all my buttons, lol

Nice find! congrats on your first.

Congrats on some really nice finds! I have to admit that with all of the weird piercings you see people get, the last three words in the Title made me cringe.:icon_pale::eek:
