google image search brought up several paper magazine advertisements from around 1925 showing them for sale typically around $39.75, which would equal about $713 dollars today. Definitely a luxury item back then that a lot of people could not afford. Also found this on google - Birtman Electric made vacuum cleaners, irons, toasters, and other household electric products until merging with Whirlpool-Seeger Corp. in 1957
