Not today's finds but hopefully the first of many
Hello everyone. I've been lurking on this site for a while and checking out all of the awesome finds that people have been finding with metal detectors. After a couple of months of thought I finally decided to get into the hobby. After more research I bought an Ace 250 a couple of weeks ago from my good friend who happens to be a Garrett dealer. As soon as I got home I got it out of the box, assembled it and took it for a test drive in my back yard. My first dig was a 1959 nickel. I knew I had found my calling! After a few more hours of practice (and a couple of eye-rolls from the wife
), I've found 19 total coins just in my back yard and one of them is my first wheatie! I've also found a child's ring (no gold/silver) and a strange little metallic rock that rang up as a penny. I haven't done the front yard yet because it is so dry here in Missouri and I don't want to damage the grass.
I just want to thank everyone here on the site. Although we have never interacted directly all of you have helped me get into this wonderful hobby, helped me decide on the best metal detector for my needs and skill level (don't worry, I'm upgrading to the AT Pro as soon as I can justify the expense - maybe when I find a gold ring with the 250
), and helped figure out techniques on where to search, how to search, and what the machine is telling me. I have already discovered that I need a pinpointer... that will arrive in the mail tomorrow!
Every day I can't wait to get out and swing! It really sucks right now because the ground is so dry and hard here from. We need some rain or I need to rent a jackhammer!
Thanks again everyone and I can't wait to post some really nice finds!
