greetings! found this chunk of iron fairly deep at water's edge- prob about 16-20 inches down (kept filling with water as i dug)- while beach metal detecting. mostly just grabbed it to get it out of there but i did notice some sort of "grooves" at the top (left side in some of the photos). its pretty heavy and twisted up and obviously has a lot of sediments stuck to it but i was just wondering if this resembles anything that anyone might be familiar with- thought maybe those grooves might be a clue, they almost looksort of ornamental. ive tried running it through google lens from all sorts of different angles and it was pretty much useless. i would just be curious to know what it is before i toss it in the scrap. cheers!

Any time I find "unknown iron" that no one can identify, I run it through electrolysis before tossing it. Sometimes the removal of sediment and rust will reveal more detail or patterns.

CrankyBuzzard has good advice. In the condition its in it might be off of cast iron furniture or stove...

After you clean it, post more pictures. Someone may be able to ID.
