Officials believe a fire at a historic covered bridge in Perry County may have been arson.

The fire at the historic Dellville covered bridge in Wheatfield Township started around 3:45 Monday morning.

Flames and smoke could be seen coming from the bridge. Pine Hill and Dellville Roads were closed because of the blaze.

The bridge was built in 1889 and crosses the Sherman Creek. It was re-built in October of 1973 after the Agnes flood.

Duncannon fire officials said the bridge was fully involved when they arrived on the scene.

Not cool in any sense. Historic value makes it even worse. Hope they catch them.

You have to wonder what kind of sick lunatic would get any kind of satisfaction from doing something like this. I hope they have to pay for the replacement and have to help rebuild it. Such a loss.

From news reports over the years.. senseless arson like this with no clear motive, typically turns out to be one of the firefighters.. sad it is ..

by the time the whole thing was in flames, part should have been falling down

there was no electricity on the bridge either so nothing to light it.
