For the past couple of days I have been perusing the coin roll forum here.

More like the "Treasure" roll forum if you ask me lol.

So I decided today to go to my bank branch on lunch break. They had 33 rolls of halves there, 31 of them machine rolled (oh goody! ;D )

As the teller was counting them out to me, I saw a roll right off the bat that had the reverse of a silver half staring out one end.

As I am at work, I only brought one roll in with me to look thorugh in my office.

You guessed it...the roll I had seen at the bank.

At least I got one.....a 1966 40%'er. In this roll, the only other oddities were a pair of Bicentennial halves.

But that is ok....when I get home tonight I will sit down and go through the other 32 rolls.

The teller was really nice...she said she would gladly order $500 dollar boxes for me.

This is the beginning of some fun and possibly rewarding times!

Woohoo!!
:D

Oops...I had to run out to my vehicle for a moment for other purposes. I went ahead and snagged the only 2 hand-rolled rolls. Nothing there, though one of them was almost entirely made up of Bicentennial halves.

Oh well.

If I find nothing else in this box, at least I have one with silver already!

Good going- now you're hooked, heheheheh! :D

Congrats on your first silver half roll find, and I hope you find many more. :)

Glad to have another on board! Good luck with the rest of the rolls and all your future searching!

Well I had fun.

For my first big roll hunt, I ended up with 6 Kennedy 40% halves and 1 1980 gold plated version:

1 1966
2-1967
2-1968
1-1969

1-1980.

Does anyone know the story behind the gold halves? Why stamp 1960 and 1980 on it?

Well, here are some scans anyhoo.

Yaay for me haha.

Wow, what a nice way to get started. You're hooked now!! One of the nice things about this form of coin collecting is that you get to spend your rejects on buying some new coin stocks to look through. And the ones you do take out of circulation generally have a higher value than the face value. It's a win-win!
HH,
Bob

Congrats on your finds! It took me a whil ebefore I found any silver halves. As for the 1960-1980.. I am clueless there, sorry.

I don't know the story behind it either, but I know some have posted them on here before-

Congrats on the silver. Throw them on the table a couple of times. They make a lovely sound.

Heck yeah..."bing!"

Some observations....I found a lot of 1997 halves that were really shiny looking. Nothing I would consider a proof, but even so, they looked nice.

I have never encountered slot machine coins in my life until now. But in every roll there was at least one half where the reeded edge was worn completely smooth.

I look forward to someday finding some 90% halves, as well as some Bennies & Captain Walkers ;)

Those 1960-1980 coins have shown up here before. I don't know the story on them but I wonder how wide spread they are.

I found mine a couple of weeks ago in a box of halves I got from my bank. I live in Southern California. Do any others that have found this coin want to tell what part of the country you are from?

i've found a couple of those stamped halves up here in Minnesota.

Watch out, that silver is addictive. You can find WAY more silver in a box of halves than with your Metal Detector (at least I do).

I found one of those stamped halves, different dates though. Have no idea why they were made, but they are fun to find. Got mine from a Chicago area bank in a box of $500.
