At the suggestion of many I returned to the same field that I found over 40 buttons a few days ago

And this is what I found in about 3 more hours of scanning
Another 20+ buttons, 1 large cent, a couple of Indians and 1 1857 flying eagle and 3 nice glass buttons without detector along with much more pottery and glass.
Two eagles. The one facing is an EXTRA QUALITY backmark.

I left some for next year. Farmer wants field back and is considering renaming me ground hog! I have a cellar hole that I found last month and have not yet detected because of the rain and muddy road. But I will hit it tomorrow and let you know what it has to offer. Thanks again for looking.

Wow! I've never seen that many buttons of so much variety in one site. Sure would be nice to know the story. Is there any sign of fire on anything you've dug? I know they would gather lice infested uniforms and clothing and burn them. Just my crazy thinking. 60 buttons in two hunts from one site has to be a record. Congratulations!

Relic nut, Old house sight and area of 6 slave quarters. Most of those buttons would not have been worn by slaves. Might have been party sight for the young men of the plantation. Funny, not much in the way of harmonica reeds.

Whats the thought on why so many buttons are in one place? I have a similar but less dramatic result in my yard. Im finding a lot of colonial buttons but no coins. Seems odd to me.

WOW...another great hunt...you must have found where the farmer dumped his trash (old clothes)...we sometimes find the same concentration of buttons and buckles here in Europe....in old times, since there wasn’t trash service, farmers were required to cart trash from the towns after selling their goods in the market...once home, they would dump them in a section of their field...it is a great day when I come open one of these field dump sites...it is button, buckle, and the occasional coin heaven...now I have to ask, what numbers did the glass buttons ring up under (LOL, just kidding)...good luck with your hunts...Walt
