Old brass... scarf slide? Or?

I found this yesterday in an area where i have found a couple small flat buttons and not much else. My first impression was that it was perhaps a scarf slide, but that is purely a guess. I was able to find one other example online, it was a little more ornate but obviously the same type of thing. Any ideas?
