old button I found today

I found this button today in the orange groves. no old coins today just tons of torn apart soda cans and old pulltabs. It looks gold plated? I dont understand the letters on back either?

It appears to say "Patent" across the top and May 27, 181? on the bottom portion. A little more cleaning should reveal the rest.

Nuke some peroxide until it is boiling, and drop that puppy in. Should clean up enough to identify.

Personally I wouldn't use peroxide on that one, the back seems a bit unstable.

I'll say you have an imagination!! That type of back and style of back mark,puts it at LATE 1800's at best

Kugers right. I think its 187? Thats about the right date range for it.

I'm sure you folks are correct......the only thing I know about buttons is how to fasten my shirts! I was just going by what I thought I could read on a picture of a dirty button on my computer screen. I think I did pretty good.
