Old Button? Military?

Actually I found this yesterday and I think it's like Dangerman's who posted here in Today's Finds. If the pictures turn out incredibly big, I am sorry. I can't get their sizes to crop properly and for that I am sorry. This button(?) is about he size of a quarter...slightly smaller. On the side that I am sending, there's an eagle, and anchor, and 13 stars across the top. The back is so corroded that I can see no detail. Is this old or a modern day made to look old.Age ideas? And, do any of you know how to clean such an item safely? What do you guys think? God Bless
