It looks like a name plate for a file drawer cabinet? HH

It certainly resembles a name plate of some sort. It was found at 8 inches near a pond, many yards from the house. There was nothing else found near it. :dontknow:

Hmmm, was hoping this was something much more whimsical than a possible name tag haha. Any other ideas?

Looks like the clip on the back of some P.O. boxes the number is attached to

The item is part of a brass buckle for a cloth strap, from the later half of the 19th century. The two bar tabs with holes, originally held a swivel cinch. The long slots are where the cloth strap originally passed through. These are commonly called suspender buckles, yet some of these could have also been used as cinch buckles in other clothing applications.

Being that is was so deep, I am wondering if this broke off when they were clearing dirt to build the pond. Makes sense to me anyway...
