I got back on Sunday morning to one of the best producing sites I've ever detected. I first identified this site in the fall of 2015 with the aid of an 1870 Atlas from my area. This early homestead site was active from 1860 - 1920, when it very likely burned down, but it has given me some amazing finds all the same. I started by lowering the Ktz on my Deus to 7.8 on Program #3 and was almost immediately rewarded with an 1857 Upper Canada Half Penny. This site has given up close to 30 early coppers, 3 Smokehouse padlocks, 20+ early buttons and tons of early glass and porcelain fragments over the past 2 years.

The find of the day for me has to be the gentleman's brass ring. With the use of a ring mandrel and some brass jewelers tools I was able to gingerly straighten the ring back to it's original shape. Under closer inspection with a jewelers loop I can tell that it was originally gold-plated and had a red stone, likely a garnet set in the mount. I'm thinking about having it restored and made wearable again, let me know what you all think about this.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

Hey some great results from the field once again. It sure has been a good site for you over the past few years and dropping the Ktz-who knew?:laughing7: Just drop the Disc to 0 and the site will produce a few more. :dontknow:
The whizzer/button token/coin is interesting, any thoughts on the ID? Nice work on the ring, not sure on anymore restoration though. Still you had some "just returning to the truck finds" :)

Looks like you have a very good site to work on! Nice variety of finds thus far. Good luck hunting it!

That is a site that has some really interesting trash.
Congrats on all the good stuff, like the coins and the ring but the early glass and porcelain frags would really encourage me to spend more time at that site.
Excellent hunt.

Thanks very much Jim! :hello:
The whizzer or button does have some lettering around the border, but it's unreadable.
I'll bring it with me the next time wee meet up and you can have a look at it.
Think I'll start by tumbling the ring to clean it up a bit and go from there.

Hopefully we can get together for a hunt before the end of October.
Dave

Thanks for your post scruggs. :occasion14:
This site has obviously seen a lot of activity over the years and never fails to produce.

Best of luck to you,
Dave

The glass and porcelain were just the tip of the iceberg from this site ATW. :laughing7:
I did my first field-walk of this site without a detector in the winter of 2015 and the amount of frags on the surface was amazing!

I'm heading back today for what will likely be my last visit as the site now has a 'For Sale' sign on it for residential development. :sadsmiley:

DANG NICE FINDS

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

Personally I would love to see that ring restored.

Good to see you getting some nice finds. I like the big coppers, but what really impresses me is the ring restoration, very well done.

It is the copper with the two holes a whizzer toy? The holes look so close together, makes me think it's a button.

Congrats and best of luck to you sir!

I'll post an updated picture of the ring at the bottom of this thread.

Thanks very much for your words of support Tom! :occasion14:
My buddy thinks it's a whizzer toy, but like you, I think it's a button.

Here's a pic of the ring following 24hrs of tumbling,
Dave
