Old lesson forgotten (but re-learned today!)
Hello all,
I went detecting today and found...my SHOES!
I tend to swing reasonably close to my body as it eases the strain on my joints. Well, some years back I discovered a pair of my shoes had metal inserts that drove my Fisher CZ5 crazy. Of course, I only discovered this after chasing a bunch of phantom signals and making myself crazy...I never thought to check my shoes for big pieces of metal! Once I discovered this though, I'd always ensure I wore something different when out in the field.
However I forgot that lesson until today when I was out for an hour and a half without finding diddly (or squat). My E-Trac was chirping with every swing (imagine that!) but I could never "zero in" on anything...and this was a proven area where I'd pulled a 23 karat chain a couple of weeks ago. Luckily, and quite by accident, I lay my pinpointer down near my feet while I was digging one of those phantom signals and the pinpointer went wild beeping and buzzing.
That was the slap-the-side-of-my-head moment when I remembered I was detecting with different shoes than my normal "tennis shoes"! Using the 15 minutes I had left to detect, I extended the lower rod and swung wide away from my body. In that few minutes I found a ring (although nothing special), 4-5 coins, and, most importantly, my sanity <LOL>.
For the old-timers out there, please tell me this has happened to you (I don't want to be alone) and for the newbies, don't forget to CHECK YOUR SHOES! You may not be able to teach an old dog new tricks but this old dog re-learned an old one today<smile>.
Just wanted to share a smile with everyone. Happy hunting to all!
