Old locket of some sort???

Dug this up the other day on an old farm property that was occupied from about 1800 until the early 1960's in West Virginia. It looked pretty old to me and was in one piece when I found it, but I pried it apart. Looks like a picture of an Indians head, or woman's head on it, I'm not sure. I was just wondering if anyone might know how old it is, or if anyone has seen one like it. Thanks!

Rather than being an Indian gal, I believe her adornments are an Art Nouveau style.

That's another possibility, but I'm not sure it was thick enough to hold pills, unless they were very tiny pills, but you could be right. Thanks
