Garrett AT Pro, Equinox 800 (as of 10/2019)
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Did a couple searches of a wooded area that was a farm as early as the 1850s up until about the 1960s. Found this metal powder flask. As I understand it, these were first developed in the early 1800s and were common until sometime after the Civil War. This one is only about 4 inches long, so I think it was probably for a pistol. It has no markings or stamped designs, so it might be an earlier one. Also found what I think is a tombac button, but maybe a later era one. Also found this interesting pin, which seems to be missing one of its prongs. Looks Victorian to me. Miscellaneous finds include an Indian head penny, a chain, a bottles token, a large spoon, and what looks like a small pocket watch case. Happy hunting and good luck out there.

Nice to get a complete powder flask.

Not a tombac but does look late 18th C.

Lenmac, I sure love seeing the stuff you guys find at the old sites!!! I'd probably plan on going back!!

Those are great finds my friend, you can tell they've not been plowed to death like the stuff I recover. :laughing7:
The complete powder flask is a nice find, here's a small one I found last year that didn't fair so well in the fields.

Really good stuff!! I've been detecting a long time and have never seen a complete flask dug!!

Thanks! I was hoping the flask had a maker's mark so I could maybe get an approximate age, but see nothing. I was guessing tombac for the button because of the grey-ish color and limited corrosion, but I really have no idea. Glad it is possibly late 1700s though. Thanks again.

Thanks, Dave. Wow... that flask is crushed..too bad. You may find things that have been "plowed to death," but you always seem to bring them back to life. Happy hunting!

Thanks! This is my first. I do see flasks posted once in a while, but they are often incomplete, flattened, or plow-struck. I really only posted this one because it was in decent shape, albeit a plain design. Thanks again.

The complete powder flask is a great find! You don't see too many of those posted. Congrats on all your recoveries Lenmac65!

Very nice powder flask. I like those relics.
