Had a cool day out at the old turn of the century horse racetrack. This place is preserved as it was back in time (see Google Earth shot). It's been well detected over the years and slim pick'ins, and first time I went there I was shut out. But, I decided to go back today and had better luck. Shortly after arriving I found an area with a lot of old, thick broken bottles, including different colors. That's where I hit the 1944 quarter. Was sure it was going to be a Barber based on how old the track is, but was happy enough to get that silver. Also got five wheats, including three in one hole. Got a horseshoe, here's a sample piece of a blue bottle in the photo I thought was cool. There's an old glass insulator and here's the kicker...near the 1944 quarter I found a silver pocket watch. The face was gone, but otherwise looked ok. I went to my mother in laws and cleaned it (no wording on it anywhere), got something to eat, came home, and somewhere inbetween I have already lost the darn thing. I've looked all over and called her too. Maybe that thing was meant to be lost. I had hoped to photograph and post. I will keep looking for it...anyway, that was a cool find. Thanks to Earthworks for his research on this site, plus help in fixing up my photos and finding the great old photo of the horses and people, which is from this track. (Also, I found an entire horse trotter seat the jockey sits in. It was half buried in the mud.)
